As Father's Day approaches, the first Father's Day without my dad being here, I find myself gravitating toward the gifts my father bestowed upon me. Not just the physical gifts, but all the wonderful life lessons he taught me. I get my love of rocks from my dad. Growing up, both of my parents worked in agriculture, that meant we didn't have a lot of money. My dad supplemented our monthly groceries by hunting and fishing which meant he would be away from home some weekends. To show me that he missed me when he was away, he would always bring me a gift from his trips. His gifts were always rocks from the area where he was hunting. Because of those gifts, I have a large rock collection to this day. I began to research the meanings and properties of rocks when I was a little girl, but I didn't start making those stones into jewelry and imbuing them with the knowledge I gained about their spiritual meanings and healing properties until just a couple of years ago. What does this have to do with this blog about Obsidian? One of the first stone my dad gave me was an Obsidian arrowhead that he found on one of his hunting trips. Before he passed a couple of months ago, I wire wrapped one of the arrowheads and started wearing it as a talisman. In honor of my father, here is some information about Obsidian.
Obsidian has powerful metaphysical properties that will shield you against negativity, and the energy of these stones may stimulate the gift of prophecy. Obsidian is truth-enhancing. Obsidian draws out mental stress and tension. It stimulates growth on all levels, urging exploration of the unknown and opening new horizons. Obsidian aids the digestion and is a great detoxifying assistant. It reduces arthritis pain, joint problems, and cramps.
